Nepali Congress is holding its convention in the provincial assembly constituencies of 61 districts under the 14h general convention of the party on Friday.
NC Central Election Committee member Tej Rawal informed that expect for 13 districts where the district level convention have already concluded three other districts — Sarlahi, Sindhupalchowk and Rasua — where the active membership disputes are yet to be resolved, provincial constituency level convention is being held in 61 districts on Friday.
There are 330 provincial constituencies in total. Of them, 56 are in Province 1; 64 in Province 2; 66 in Bagmati; 36 in Gandaki; 52 in Lumbini; 24 in Karnali and 32 in Sudurpashim provinces.
Among the 330 provincial constituencies, the provincial level convention will not be held in 42 constituencies of 16 districts on Friday.
In 28 provincial constituencies — Dolakha-2, Ramechhap-2, Gorkha-4, Manang-2, Mustang-2, Rukum Purba-2, Sankhuwasabha-2, Taplejung-2, Kalikot-2, Humla-2, Mugu-2, Bajhang-2 and Bajura-2 — the provincial level convention has already been held.
The provincial general convention scheduled for Friday will not be held in 14 constituencies, eight in Sarlahi, four in Sindhupalchok and two in Rasuwa because of disputes.
“In all constituencies of three districts, the organising the provincial level convention was impossible as scheduled as ward level general convention was not held in Sarlahi till date and disputes had surfaced in Sindhupalchwok and Rasuwa,” said Rawal.
Our Sarlahi correspondent said that the ward level general convention that was scheduled for Thursday could not be held due to disputes over the nomination of the election officer. During disputes, supporters of two factions fought each other and some of them sustained injuries.
To hold provincial general convention of the party ward and municipal level general conventions must be held first.
Representatives elected in ward level will vote to elect party officials in municipal, provincial constituencies, federal constituencies and district committees as well as representatives for the central level general convention.
After holding the provincial constituency general election, the party is scheduled to hold federal constituencies general convention, district general convention and central general convention.
The party has scheduled to hold central general convention from 10 to 12 December. The central level general convention will elect party Central Working Committee and it will convene policy general convention separately latter on. This is the first time the NC adopted this model.
Meanwhile, Kham Bahadur Garbuja (Khambir) was unanimously elected as the party district president in Maygdi for the second term.
Election committee member Binaya Shrestha said Garbuja was elected unanimously as no other leader filed candidacy for the post.
Likewise, our Nepaljung correspondent said leadership in four municipal committees was elected unanimously in Banke.
The general convention held in Narianapur Rural Municipality, Khajura Municipality, Duduwa Rural Municipality and Janaki Rural Municipality elected the party leadership unanimously, informed chief election officer Rewati Raman Bhattarai.
In Dhading, the scheduled NC provincial constituency level election became uncertain as the general convention scheduled for Friday was put off.
Our Dhading correspondent said the NC Dhading issuing a statement said the provincial and federal level (constituencies) convention will be held on November 22.
