NEB Preparing Procedure To Conduct SEE From Internal Assessment

The National Examination Board (NEB) is now preparing to issue a procedure to conduct this year’s Secondary Education Examination (SEE) from internal assessment.
The board is preparing to formulate procedures by mid-June to make it easier for the schools and teachers to conduct the internal assessment of their students.
Prof. Dr. Chandra Mani Poudel, chairman of the NEB, said that the procedure was being discussed and it would be made public within 10 days.
The NEB stated that the working procedure would determine the criteria to give marks to the students in internal assessments and persons responsible for conducting the assessments. The NEB has been planning to issue the procedure by making some amendments to last years’s procedure, he said.
Poudel said the NEB was working to minimise the problems that might arise in such assessments. Last year’s procedure was criticised for some teachers’ unethical activities while giving marks to their students.
The NEB has started its exercise to conduct the SEE from internal evaluation after the cabinet decided to conduct it internally, concluding that the examination could not be taken in the physical presence because of COVID-19.
Although the government decided about SEE, it has not decided anything about the examinations of grade 12, which were postponed for the same reason.
Last year, the board had taken a written test of 40 marks for grade 12 students.
The government is in a mood of ‘wait and see’ rather than taking any decision in haste regarding grade 12 examinations, according to Krishna Gopal Shrestha, Minister for Education Science and Technology.
Meanwhile, the final assessment of the students studying in class 11 will be done by the schools themselves. The government has already given this right to the school by taking a policy level decision last year.
