Nepal borders sealed for the elections; ‘silence period’ to start from midnight

The ‘silent period’ of the election for the House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies to be held on November 20 will begin at 12:00 tonight as per the notice released by the Election Commission (EC).

Along with this, all borders to Nepal have been closed till the end of the polling period to eliminate any cross-border threats.

The commission has renamed the ‘silence period’ to ‘campaign silence’. During this period, no parties are allowed to host campaign activities. This period will continue until the polling station is closed on voting day. During this time, election propaganda cannot be done in any physical or immaterial way.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that all security preparations have been completed to conduct the elections in a clean, free, fair, and fearless environment. The Ministry has also determined highly sensitive polls and accordingly made arrangements for aerial surveillance.
