Nepal confirms 6th case of COVID-19 (and other updates)


Dr. Bikash Devkota, Speaker for the Ministry of Health and Population appeared on Facebook Live for the day’s media briefing. Here are a few updates:

No. of confirmed cases: 6
(5 under observation, one recovered).

As per the MoHP, the sixth confirmed case also took the same flight (QR652) along with Nepal’s second (Kathmandu) and fifth case (Baglung). Further details of the identified are awaited – we weren’t informed about the location or other details of the sixth case.

Total no. of tests done: 1184
No. of tests in past 24 hours: 51

(We were informed 43 tests in Kathmandu, and 12 tests in Pokhara are ongoing – these numbers will be included in tomorrow’s updates.)

No. of people in isolation: 105 (16 inside Kathmandu Valley, and 105 outside
(on suspicion of coronavirus, tests either yet to be done, or results are awaited)

Contact Tracing: almost complete of the four cases

Until yesterday, 84% was complete, today we have been told contact tracing is almost complete.

Testing Machines:

Dharan: Installed and in operation.
Pokhara: Installed and in operation.
Dhangadhi: Installed, awaits operation.
Janakpur: Being installed
Butwal: Installed, awaits operation.
Surkhet: Installed, awaits operation.
Hetauda: Installed, awaits operation.

Mobile App:

As per the mobile app launched by MoHP, a further five cases have been identified as ‘red’ cases. Yesterday, the MoHP said 12 cases were registered as ‘red’ cases. Tests of the 17 are yet to be done.
