Hundreds of monarchists staged a demonstration at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu on Saturday demanding reinstatement of the crown.
The demonstration was hosted under the banner of National Civil Movement Committee, 2020, despite Kathmandu District Administration Office’s public notice a few days ago to not organize or participate in any kind of political or social rallies/gatherings.
Similar demonstrations were also held in Kathmandu, Jhapa and Chitwan on Saturday.
The protesters demanded scrapping federalism, reinstatement of monarchy and restoration of the country’s Hindu nation status, among other things.
They also demanded provision of directly elected prime minister and lawmakers not exceeding more than 115 persons.
Demands for reinstatement of monarchy have gained moment of late as the internal strife within the ruling Nepal Communist Party peaks and problems related to general public’s livelihood as well as corruption is on the rise in the country.
In the last one month, similar rallies, processions and demonstrations have been held in Dhangadhi, Nepalgunj, Surkhet, Butwal, Pokhara, Chitwan, Janakpur, Hetauda, Biratnagar and Jhapa.
