The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged the political parties to include human rights issues in the manifestos they are
preparing for the elections to the House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies.
Issuing a statement on Wednesday, Dr. Tikaram Pokharel, spokesperson for the NHRC, urged the political parties to accord high priority to the issues of human rights as per Nepal’s commitment to various international conventions.
The NHRC has been observing the manifestos prepared by the political parties since long.
It has appreciated that the political parties had mentioned the issues of human rights in their election
manifestos in the past, and urged them to include human rights issues in their manifestos this time as well.
“NHRC makes a special request to all political parties to prioritise the issues of human rights in their election manifestos in accordance with Nepal’s Constitution, Act related to political party, NHRC recommendations and Nepal’s international commitments to respecting, protecting and promoting human rights,” read the statement.
