There are 14 8,000 metres and above peaks in this globe – Everest , K2, Kanchanjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu , Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Nanga Parbat, Annapurna, Gasherbrum I, Broad Peak , Gasherbrum II, Shisha Pangma.
Within the past five months, Nirmal Purja (aka Nims Dai) has scaled 13 of them – only one mountain (Shisha Pangma) remains for him to complete his mission: Project Possible 14/7. (As the name suggests Nims Dai wants to summit all 14 8,000ers within seven months – an earlier unachieved feat).
Standing atop Mt. Manaslu, today at around 07:50 a.m. Nirmal Purja inched more closer than ever to completing his mission. While inching closer to his feat, he also broke another world record today – 13 peaks above 8,000 metres within 5 months (158 days).
Nims Dai started his project on April 23 this year – when he stood atop Mt. Annapurna. He also broke another world record when he scaled Everest, Lhotse and Makalu within 2 days and 30 minutes.
On May 22, 2019 at 05:30 a.m. he was atop Everest, on the same day at 03:45, he was atop Lhotse. Two days later, on May 24, 2019, at 06:00 a.m. he was atop Makalu.
Born in Myagdi, Purja served in the British Gurkha army for 16 years. He started the project for setting an example of human potential.
He has only one peak to complete his mission – Shisha Phanga of China, and needs to climb it within November 22. However, there is one hurdle – China has closed the mountain for all summits this year.
To help him complete his mission, the Nepalese government too has made a special request, however no word has been received yet.
