No agreement will be signed against national interest: PM


Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that he will not ink any agreement that is against the interest of the country. In a meeting held among the top leaders of the ruling coalition on Wednesday, he assured that there would be no agreement without forging a national consensus.

In the meeting held at Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar, he clarified that he would not agree to ink any agreement that would go against national interest despite pressure from any other country. Prime Minister Deuba’s press chief Govinda Pariyar confirmed the meeting without giving details.

CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairperson Madhav Kumar Nepal and Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal’s Chairperson Upendra Yadav had reached Baluwatar to meet Prime Minister Deuba.

Prime Minister’s statement came at a time when the proposed State Partnership Programme (SPP) proposal of the US Army has come to light giving rise to controversies.

After the meeting, Yadav said the Prime Minister would not consider signing any agreement without consensus. They also discussed the ongoing deliberations in the parliament about the recently unveiled budget for the upcoming fiscal year and its endorsement.

Meanwhile, Rastriya Prajatantra Party submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Deuba reaching Baluwatar, informed press chief Pariyar.

RPP chair Rajendra Lingden and his team submitted 22-point demands to the Prime Minister.
