Noted literary figure Madan Mani Dixit has passed away today. He was 96.
Dixit was admitted to Sumeru Hospital in Lalitpur last week due to pneumonia attack. He was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday. He was rushed to Himal Hospital in Putalisadak after he fainted at own residence while going to the washroom. The doctors of the hospital pronounced him dead upon arrival. He was suffering from heart, kidney and respiratory complications.
Dixit enjoyed an eminent position in Nepali literature with 46 literary creations to his credit. Some of them are ‘Madhavi’, ‘Rigveda” Kehi Pramukh Sukti’ and ‘Gas Chamberko Mrityu’.
He had received several prominent awards and honours, including Madan Puruskar, Sajha Puruskar and Padmashree Puruskar for his outstanding contributions to the Nepali literary world.
His contributions towards the Nepali journalism sector is also immense.
He was born in Gairidhara, Kathmandu in Falgun 6, 1979. He is survived by a spouse, three sons and a daughter. Dixit’s mortal body will be cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat today, according to his grandson Awani Dixit.
