Oli To Expand Cabinet After Taking Oath As Prime Minister


President Bidya Devi Bhandari is administering the oath of office and secrecy to the newly appointed Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today at 2:30 in the afternoon at the President’s office. Prime Minister Oli has made preparations to expand the council of ministers after he takes the oath of office and secrecy. 

A source at CPN-UML informed The Rising Nepal said that the final decision as to appointing ministers had not been taken yet.

Even though Prime Minister Oli is preparing to include the leaders from Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Madav Kumar Nepal-led faction, the final names of the leaders for appointment in the cabinet has not been received yet. Nepal’s faction is currently holding discussions regarding the same.

“The final names from the Nepal-led faction will be received before 2:00,” said Sher Bahadur Tamang, secretary of the CPN-UML party office.

“Prime Minister Oli will include leaders from all supporting parties in his new cabinet. However, names from JSP and Nepal-led faction have not been received yet,” said Bishal Bhattarai, chief whip of the CPN-UML parliamentary party.

Tamang further informed that the Prime Minister was holding internal consultations regarding the expansion of the cabinet.

Meanwhile, Keshab Jha, a member of the Central Executive Committee of JSP, said that the JSP would not participate in the government in the first phase.

“We are positive regarding being in the government. However, all our demands must be addressed before it. As the Prime Minister is likely to fulfill our demands, we will wait for a few days,” said Jha.

Likewise, the leaders of the Nepal-led faction of CPN-UML are also in dilemma regarding being in the government in the first phase.

“However, as the senior leaders have reached to an agreement in the meeting held on Thursday, I believe that Nepal-led faction will participate in the government,” said leader Tamang.
