The revenue collection has increased with the introduction of online system in the Land Revenue Office of Panchthar. Since the leakage of revenue has been stopped after the implementation of online system since June 2017, the trend of revenue collection has also increased.
In the past, only 40 per cent of the revenue was collected, but it is said that 100 per cent of the revenue has been collected through the online system.
Chief of Land Revenue Office Baburam Pokahrel said that the revenue collection has remained stable despite the recent decline in land transactions.
He said that this shows an increase in revenue.
The tax rate has not been increased, he said. Even though the tax rate has remained the same, the revenue has been increasing every fiscal year. Before the implementation of online system, only Rs. 16.65 million was collected in the fiscal year 2016/17, Rs. 21.98 million in FY 2017/18 and Rs. 25.07 million in 2018/19. About Rs. 20.7 million was collected in fiscal year 2019/2020 and Rs. 35.8 million in the fiscal year 2020/2021.
He said that online system has been a big help in increasing the revenue collection. After all, the tax collection system has been made very transparent after the implementation of online system.
The online system will update record only after mentioning the prescribed service fee for any land related transaction. Accordingly, the revenue related employees have to file.
This arrangement has stopped the space for the employees to reduce the revenue as per their own interest, Pokharel said.
Similarly, the service recipients have been getting the same amount of voucher as they have paid for the service.
Thus, the online system has been found to prevent revenue leakage and discourage corruption in various ways.
The online system does not allow any service recipient to avoid or even hide the profit tax they have to pay.
