A total of 9,699 youth have applied to go to Israel for employment. The number of applicants is nine times higher than the demand quota of 1,000 given by Israel in the first phase.
The Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) had called for applications for 1,000 assistant workers in long-term care homes in Israel on July 27 and 9,699 applications have been received until the last date which ended on last Monday, said Dambar Bahadur Sunuwar, director of the Department of Foreign Employment.
Out of them, 5,499 applicants are men and 4,200 are women. The applicants were given 21 days from July 28 to August 16 to submit their forms.
The Department called for submitting the applications through online, Sunwar said, adding that applicants submitted their forms easily and smoothly through the online system even in the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sunuwar said that the Department was preparing for the examination by verifying the applications received by first week of September, this year.
“After verifying all the applications, those who are approved will be considered eligible for the written test,” Sunuwar told The Rising Nepal. “Applications that do not meet the criteria will be rejected.”
Sunuwar said that the Department has written to the COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre (CCMC) through the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security seeking suggestions on how to conduct the test examination in case of COVID-19 infection.
Even if the candidates who score more than 40 marks in the English language test for Israel will be passed, those selected in the merit base will be called for interview, he said.
“We are planning to conduct exam within the Kathmandu Valley following the health protocol to be safe from the COVID-19,” he said.
As per the ceiling fixed by the government of Israel, it will pick around 1,680 people from the exam for interview and will select 1,400 from interview for work in Israel, he said.
The DoFE will prepare the roster of successful candidates based on the merit list and send it to Population, Immigration and Border Authority (PIBA) for selection, he said. PIBA has an authority to select workers based on the roster provided by DoFE,” he said.
“We are preparing to complete the process and send the workers to Israel at the earliest,” he said.
He expressed his hope that selected candidates will start going to Israel by October this year if the situation remains same.
The number of applicants for Israel employment has showed that Israel has become attractive destination for Nepali migrant workers in terms of security and earning as well, he said.
Initially, the working period will be one year contract and after that the contract period will be extended up to five years. The workers will receive a monthly salary of 5,300 Israeli Shekel, or about Rs. 200,000 Nepali rupees, the Department said.
The estimated cost for a worker to go to Israel is Rs. 165,700, including plane ticket and other documentation required for migrant workers.
