‘Overlooked Faces of Nepal’ released

An art book reflecting life and experience of gender and sexual monitories, ‘Overlooked Faces of Nepal’ has been released here recently.

Doctors duo Paridhi Sharma and Arpana Pathak have vividly portrayed the experience of 30 people from the gender minority community. The sketches are drawn on Mandala and Mithila style. The LGBTQ community is not open to society for various reasons, which is depicted in the art book.

Dr Sharma said, “I and colleague Dr Arpana tried to reflect the plights of LGBTQ in the book. The art also functioned as a coping mechanism amidst trepidation of COVID-10.”

In response to a question what inspired them to prepare art book on LGBTQ, she shared that they came to know about the love story between two women from Nepal and India, but they struggled hard to nurture their love. They were forced to flee their countries to materialize their love with marriage.” Knowing it, they got inspired to work on life of the LGBTQ.

The writers have claimed that the art book could be the first ‘colouring book’ for LGBTQ community in Nepal. (RSS)
