Paddy Plantation Begins Early In Banke


The paddy plantation in Banke has started much earlier this year than last year.
According to the Agriculture Knowledge Centre, Nepalgunj, paddy plantation has started much earlier than in the past owing to the timely arrival of monsoon and smooth operation of the Sikta irrigation canal.
Stating that plantation has already started in some places of the district after timely rains and irrigation facilities in the fields, chief of Agriculture Knowledge Centre, Nepalgunj Sagar Dhakal said that the production is expected to increase this year due to timely plantation.
He said that the farmers were preparing for planting paddy in most of the places.
In Banke, paddy of Ramdhan, Radha 4, Samamansuli, Chait 5 and hybrid varieties are being planted.
Chief Dhakal said that the Centre has also sent some new varieties of paddy to the farmers for testing this year.
Farmer Narendra Thapa of Banke Khajura-3 said that they have started planting paddy this year as the rains started on time.
He said that the production is also expected to increase as planting could be started on time this year.
Paddy is cultivated in about 36,000 hectares of land in Banke.
