The four silver doors and the roof of the centuries-old Hindu temple, Pashupatinath, damaged and broken in several parts by the 2015 earthquake will be repaired in the next few weeks.

To repair the artistic silver doors, retrofitting work of the temple and other physical infrastructure in fiscal year 2020/2, the government has allocated Rs. 350 million.

The Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) is also studying the physical structure of the temple to examine inner damage, if any, by the earthquake.

Dr Pradeep Dhakal, member-secretary of PADT, said authorised persons who are allowed to enter inside the temple have been examining the inner parts of the shrine.

Bhandari and Biset are allowed to climb the upstairs floor of the temple. They have completed the studying process of two floors while the third floor remains to be examined.

No serious damage was found on both floors. The repairing process will start after completing the examination of the third floor as per the recommendation of the team, he said. The major task of the temple is repairing the four doors which really need to be restored.

The repairing process will start with the ease in COVID-19 pandemic. The gold-plating task of the roof and basaha will also start. All the repairing, maintenance and gold-plating task will complete within the current fiscal year under the coordination of the Department of Archaeology, he said. The repair of doors and gold-plating of roof and basaha is expected to bring sparkle to the Pashupatinath Temple.
