Passion For Music Makes Laxmi Popular Singer

Emerging singer Laxmi Acharya was fascinated with singing since childhood. Grown up listening to folk songs from her parents, she was fascinated with music from early age.
Although her parents are not professional singers, their passion for music was a great inspiration for her to become a singer.

Even though she has been singing since childhood, she made her mark in the field of Nepali music from 2013 through her first album ‘Malai Mero Kalule Kati Maya Garchha’.
She recorded this album in Dhangadhi and the following year she came to Kathmandu and began her professional singing career.

She sang with singer Ramji Khad and Khuman Adhikari in her first album, and she continued this collaboration in few other songs.
Born in Tikapur, Kailali, she has so far recorded over 150 folk songs.

Along with singing, she is also active in modeling and has featured in over a dozen music videos. “If music demands my character, I will continue modeling too,” said Acharya.
Sharing her experience, she said that she was suggested not to pursue her career in music by her parents even though they loved singing. “It was so because women are not allowed to be open in the societies in Sudurpashchim,” Acharya said.

Despite her parent’s disapproval, Acharya’s passion for music dragged her to the music industry. She has continued her efforts to excel her singing ability and become one of the best in the business. “When I was young, I used to practice singing for a long time, sometimes for the whole night, to improve my singing skills.”
“I come from a conservative place where women’s individual identity is not given much importance. Breaking the stereotype that women in Sudurpashchim are vulnerable, I am making a name and respect from my field and I will always try to encourage other women to continue following their dreams,” said Acharya.

Apart from music, Acharya is also active in social service. Her future plans are to engage in music as well as social service. She has also opened ‘Laxmi Foundation’ during the lockdown through which she helped the people in need and fed the stray dogs.
A few months ago, singer Acharya was presented the Rastriya Byaktitwa tatha Sartha Samman-2078.
Her songs like Aafnai Naam Manparyo, Bhan Saali Teri Didi Ka Chha, Manaparauchhau, Taruni Bhetigai and others are popular among audience.
