PM Assures Of Relief Packages For Survivors Of Floods, Landslides

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has announced the government will come up with a relief package for the survivors of landslides and floods.

Addressing a programme after the inspection of area eroded by the Mahakali River at Bhimdutta municipality-12 in Kanchanpur district today, the Prime Minister said, “ Data of losses caused by the off-seasonal incidences of flood will be gathered and the government will come up with a relief package for the survivors of landslides and floods.

“The floods and landslides have caused huge losses in the districts of Far Western region,” he said, promising to provide relief to the survivors despite limited resources.

Stating that the Council of Ministers a few days ago had decided to reach with the survivors with relief programmes, the head of the government said the flood had its implications in several parts of the country including in eastern Nepal.

As the Prime Minister said, low-lying areas on the Mahakali and Dodhara-Chandani in Kanchanpur district were facing issues of erosion since the past and this time the paddy crop here was largely damaged by the flood. The District Security Committee briefed the Prime Minister about the flood-caused losses and the post-disaster situation here.

The Prime Minister arrived here on Thursday to take stock of losses caused due to the disaster in Far Western Nepal. He had visited Doti, Bajhang, Baitadi and Dadeldhura districts yesterday. He is scheduled to inspect the flood-hit areas in Kailali today.
