PM, Coalition Leaders Discuss Ways To Pass MCC Compact

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairman of CPN (Maoist Centre) Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and chairman of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Socialist) Madhav Kumar Nepal on Wednesday discussed the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) project proposed by the US government.
The chiefs of the three ruling parties discussed the MCC issue at the official residence of the Prime Minister in Baluwatar.

Prime Minister Deuba’s press expert Govinda Pariyar informed that the three leaders discussed the MCC compact.
Prime Minister Deuba has been holding consultations with the ruling coalition leaders to pass the MCC from the Parliament.
However, the MCC has been on hold due to objection from the ruling CPN-MC and the CPN (Unified Socialist).

Meanwhile, chairman of the ruling coalition party CPN (Unified Socialist) Madhav Kumar Nepal has said that the coalition will contest the local level election to be held in May together.
Speaking at a blood donation programme organised by the CPN (Unified Socialist)-affiliated student organisation on Wednesday, Chairman Nepal said the discussions were underway to continue the alliance in the local election.

“The local election is going to be held in May. The coalition parties will move forward together in that election as well. We are holding discussions in that regard,” he said.
“Some may have wanted to break the alliance and attempts are being made to do so. But their ill intentions will not succeed,” he said, adding that the ruling coalition would not break.
“As the country is now moving forward in coalition politics, we will see different forms of alliance in the days to come,” said Nepal.

Stating that the ruling coalition had created panic among the right-wing forces, Chairman Nepal said that the electoral alliance started from the National Assembly election would continue in the House of Representatives and State Assembly elections as well.
He also claimed that the coalition government would complete full tenure and insisted that the ruling coalition would not break up under any circumstances.

He further said that during the meeting with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda on Wednesday, they agreed to move forward by strengthening the alliance.

“We have also discussed the news reports published in newspapers. There has been a lot of fabricated news. There is no truth in them. We are committed to strengthening this alliance,” he added.
“We are in politics for the people. We are moving forward on the journey of socialism and have formed a five-party alliance. This alliance is not going to split now,” he said.
