Prime Minister and Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba on Tuesday instructed the party Central Election Committee to prepare the calendar of the party’s 14th general convention to conclude it by mid-December.
During a meeting with the former and sitting office-bearers of the party and the officials of the Election Committee held at the NC Parliamentary Party Office at Singha Durber, president Deuba gave the instruction, clearing all confusions regarding the fate of the 14th general convention of the party.
He said the Election Committee has the right to prepare the calendar to hold general convention of all levels by mid-December.
After the meeting, NC joint general secretary Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat informed that party president Deuba clearly instructed the Election Committee to prepare the calendar to conclude the general convention by mid-December.
The party president clearly told the committee that it had full rights to prepare the calendar and to forward the process at the earliest. “The general convention should end by mid-December. Do homework for that,” Dr. Mahat said quoting party president Deuba.
Rival faction led by senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel demanded a party Central Working Committee meeting to take a formal decision to hold the general convention by mid-December.
After the meeting, Paudel informed that he demanded a CWC meeting to finalise the issues relating to the convention calendar.
“We have agreed with the party president’s instruction to conclude the general convention by mid-December,” Paudel said.
The NC had decided to hold its central general convention on November 26-29. However, the convention has become uncertain as no process for the ward level convention has begun in 13 districts. Still, the dispute over active members has not been resolved in Rasuwa and Rautahat.
According to vice president Bimalendra Nidhi, during the meeting, the leaders discussed about publishing the list of active members of the two districts before Chhath.
