PM Opens Army’s Command Coordination Meeting


Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Sher Bahadur Deuba Thursday inaugurated the Command Coordination Meeting 2078 organised for the first time after the Nepali Army entered the Command structure.
This type of meeting used to be called Principle Staff Officers (PSOs) meeting before the army shifted to a three-plus-one command structure from the current fiscal year.

Since July 16, Division Headquarters of all seven provinces have been divided into four-command structure, namely West, Central, East and Valley.
In the coordination meeting, the heads of the directorate generals, directors, and the commander headquarters chiefs brief about the current security situation, reviee their work and forward suggestions on their respective areas of responsibility, according to Directorate of Public Relations and Information (DPR&I) at the Army Headquarters.

Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Deuba said that such interactions and discussions conducted at the strategic level of the Nepali Army, which is an important part of national
security, would analyse the international, regional and national security environment.

Prime Minister Deuba also expressed the belief that building a common understanding on security related issues would play an important role in developing relevant countermeasures to address the challenges.
He assured the NA that the government would make every effort to ensure the resources for the works of long-term significance being executed by the Nepali Army, including the ongoing development works.

Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS) Geneal Prabhu Ram Sharma said that the Nepali Army was determined to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities in all circumstances and to abide by the lawful orders of the government of Nepal.
He expressed the belief that the NA would continue on the path of duty until its responsibilities were fulfilled in entirety.

General Sharma said that the NA was continuously studying, monitoring and analysing all kinds of activities related to national security and stability in the country. CoAS Sharma also informed that the Nepali Army was always ready to face the security challenges that may arise at any time.

Secretary at the Ministry of Defence, Begendra Raj Sharma Paudyal said that the Ministry was always committed to carry out all the plans put forward by the Army for the protection and promotion of the national security.
Meanwhile, performance appraisal agreement was also signed between the Chief of the Army Staff and the Secretary of Defence on behalf of the Nepali Army and the Ministry of Defence.

The Army is confident that the feedback received after such a coordination meeting and interaction will make a significant contribution to the formulation of important policy and planning of the Nepali Army in the days to come, Brigadier General Shantosh Ballave Poudyal, Spokesperson for the Army Headquarters, said.

The CC meeting was attended by other senior-most staff officers, command headquarters’ chiefs, heads of various directorate generals, directorates, offices and departments and battalion heads.
