Immediate past Parliament speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara has been arrested by police over the allegation of sexual harassment ahead of the country’s great festival, Dashain.

A team of police from the Metropolitan Police Kathmandu took Mahara in custody on Sunday from his official residence at Baluwatar after the district court issued an arrest warrant against him.

Mahara is alleged of sexually harassing Roshani Shahi, an employee at the Secretariat of Federal Parliament, last week at her rented flat in Tinkune while no one was at home. She had filed a case against Mahara on Friday.

A single bench of district judge Brajesh Pyakurel ordered police to detain Mahara and launch a probe into the case.
