The Bagmati Province government has moved to resume Nepal Orind Magnesite Company which has remained closed for a long time.
The magnesite quarrying industry has been shut down for 29 years and the magnesite industry used to make talc powder till 7 years ago.
After monitoring the industry on August 4, provincial minister for Industry, tourism, forest, and environment Suresh Nepal informed that the process of resumption of the industry has been started
The provincial minister said that the provincial government has passed a policy and programme and allocated a budget to resume the industry.
The industry’s technician Pradeep Karki said that talc production can be restarted with assistance from the government.
The initiative to revive the industry is positive as it was difficult to protect the closed industry.
Karki said that Province 2 and Bagmati Province can be self-sufficient in products of magnesite from the small magnesite industry supplying from the magnesite. Even though the magnesite and ropeway cannot be resumed immediately from the current budget.
5 tons of magnetite per day can be produced after the repair of the company.
Secretary of the ministry Sindhu Dhungana informed that Rs 20 lakh of the budget has been allocated in the fiscal year 2021/22 for reviving the Nepal Orind Magnesite under the heading of operating the moribund industry programme.
He informed that the minister is taking initiative, the budget has been passed, and now the industry will be started after the consent of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply.
Nepal Orind Magnesite industry is recognized under a large scale company.
The industry is spread in 366 ropani of land is located in Balefi Municipality- 8 and magnesite quarrying is in Lakuridada.
The ropeway between mining and industry was stalled over 29 years ago.
