President Bidya Devi Bhandari has granted amnesty to 702 prisoners. According to the spokesperson of the Office of the President, Sagar Acharya, the President granted a pardon to 702 inmates as per the recommendation of the Council of Ministers and the verdict of the courts made on different dates.
The President pardoned the jail sentence of 21 inmates including Mahendra Prasad Kanu that are enlisted in the decision of the Cabinet held on September 17 in accordance with Article 276 of the Constitution and section 159 of the Civil Criminal Procedure Code.
Similarly, the President exempted the remaining jail term of the 681 inmates including Pasang Sherpa and Indra Kumar Limbu for having good conduct on the basis of the Supreme Court decision, Rule 3 of the Civil Offence (jail term reduction) Regulation, 2076 BS and Civil Offence (Punishment determination and implementation) Act 2074 BS and Article 276 of the Constitution of Nepal.
The amnesty was given on the occasion of Constitution Day.
