President Bhandari terms entrepreneurs, farmers as backbone for country’s economic development

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said that state agencies should pay attention towards entrepreneurs and farmers since they are the backbone of the country’s economic development.

Inaugurating the National Industrial Exhibition in Butwal on Thursday, the President drew the attention of the stakeholders to create an enabling environment for accessible services and opportunities as per the state’s capacity for entrepreneurs and farmers.

It was the state’s vital responsibility to promote the consumption of domestic productions, invest in the areas of comparative advantages and facilitate the task of employment creation, President Bhandari said.

Saying that the national economy at present is witnessing serious types of challenges, President Bhandari stated that the trade deficit and huge volume of imports have added pressure on the foreign reserve of the country.

Development of the self-sustaining national economy should be our fundamental objective to overcome these challenges, according to the President.

To immediately reduce the country’s trade deficit, policies should be applied for increasing agricultural production, promoting tourism, increasing consumption of domestic hydropower and substituting imports from forest produces and herbs, the President said.

Likewise, the President said that industrialists and entrepreneurs should work jointly to motivate youth human resources and farmers by making the policy not to keep the land barren from each local level.

President Bhandari also expressed her firm belief that this exhibition shall be vital to uplift the entire national economy with increased economic activities against the backdrop of slow economic conditions in the aftermath of COVID-19.(RSS)
