Prioritise Search, Rescue, Says Former PM Khanal


Former Prime Minister and senior leader of the CPN (Unified Socialist) Jhala Nath Khanal has called the government and concerned authorities to prioritise search, rescue and aid for the victims of the rain-induced disasters.

Issuing a statement on Wednesday, Khanal, also a member of Federal Parliament, expressed condolences to the bereaved families who lost their kin and wished for speedy recovery of the injured ones.
The floods and landslides triggered by the post-monsoon torrential rain in the country have claimed 86 lives by Wednesday with 27 people missing.
In Ilam district, 13 people have lost their lives, five have been injured and two have gone missing.

Khanal who was elected to the House of Representatives from constituency number 1 of Ilam, also regretted losses of lives in his home district.
“During this difficult time, I call all three tiers of the government to prioritise search and rescue of missing individuals and provide relief to the affected families effectively,” read the statement.
Khanal also urged the party cadres, locals and activists among others to unite and help the affected families and individuals.
