Prosperity, Poverty Alleviation Impossible Without Modernisation Of Agriculture: Agriculture Experts


The stakeholders of the agriculture sector has concluded that prosperity of the country is impossible without modernization of agriculture.

They have emphasised for modernisation and mechanisation as traditional, sustenance farming cannot drive the prosperity of the country.

In the two-day National Conference for Modernisation of Agriculture for Prosperous Nepal organized by Nepal Agriculture Federation and Agriculture Development Division, the experts suggested the government to focus on agriculture which has been the main pillar of economy of Nepal.

In the concluding remark, Director General of the Department of Agriculture, Govinda Prasad Sharma, said that there have been a number of positive changes in agriculture sector, it should be adopted.

He said that prosperity and alleviation of poverty is impossible without modernization of agriculture sector and that this be kept in mind while moving forward for prosperity.

He said that prosperity cannot be achieved without modernization and mechanization of agriculture.

The director general said that suggestions from the conference will be helpful to formulate the policy and programme and their effective implementation.

In the programme, agriculture entrepreneurs from each seven provinces presented plans and programme of different levels of the governments and their effectiveness vis-a-vis the expectation of farmers.

They reviewed the agriculture policy and agriculture development programme and expressed their opinions for the development and upliftment of the farmers.

Working papers on the financial access and agriculture production by Dr. Bishow Poudel, opportunities and challenges in foreign investment in agriculture by Dr. Ganesh Raj Joshi, main challenges of promotion of agriculture by Dr. Ram Hari Timilsina, Fragmentation of land for modernization of agriculture by Dr. Chandra Rimal, Risk minimization in agriculture: challenges and opportunities by Dr. Govinda Prasad Sharma were presented in the conference.
