The government of Province-2 has declared to provide monetary compensation to the families of victims who died after consuming homemade alcohol.
Lal babu Raut, Chief Minister of Province-2 visited Ramdaiya of Kshireshwornath municipality where the death toll from the drinking of toxic alcohol is highest.
According to the District Police Office, the deceased were said to be ill after consuming locally made liquor excessively during the celebration of the Holi festival on March 10.
He expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, promising to provide Rs 3 lakh each to the families of deceased.
He made it clear that those involved in the supply of toxic alcohol would be punished, announcing to declare Province-2 free from the open sale of alcohol.
Minister for internal affairs and law Gyanendra Kumar Yadav, who was accompanying the Chief Minister, said a security committee meeting would take place today itself which would proceed for controlling the open supply of alcohol and bringing culprit to book.
Lawmaker Raghubir Mahaseth on Sunday had met with the bereaved families and handed Rs 20,000 each to conduct death rituals.
Till Sunday, the death toll from the intake of toxic alcohol has reached 17.
