The Department of Transport Management has hiked the fare of the interprovince public transport starting from Sunday, midnight.
According to a notice of the Department, the fare has been increased by 5.3 to 7.7 per cent owing to the price hike in petroleum products including diesel.
Passenger vehicles fare is hiked by 5.3 per cent, the fare of goods carriers in hills is increased by 6.94 per cent while the fare of the goods carriers in the plains, Tarai, is increased by 7.7 per cent. The fare for local routes will remain the same.
With the increase in fuel prices, the department has adjusted the fares according to the automatic system. If the price of fuel increases or decreases by more than five per cent, the fare will be adjusted.
The Nepal Oil Corporation had increased the price of petrol by Rs 21 per litre and diesel/kerosene by Rs 27 per litre with effect from midnight on Sunday.
At present, the price of petrol is Rs 199 per litre and diesel/kerosene is Rs 192 per litre.
