Residents of Rapti Sonari and Narainapur rural municipalities of Banke district have expressed happiness for getting electricity for the first time during Tihar festival.
Exchanging their happiness with Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications of Lumbini Province Tilak Sharma and Provincial Assembly Member of Lumbini Province Krishna KC, who arrived in Baghauda to inspect the area immediately after Tihar, they said that this year’s festival was historic for them.
Earlier, they had been celebrating Dipawali and Tihar with oil-fed lamps for years. This time, the locals were very happy to illuminate their houses with electric lights in Tihar, said KC
KC informed that they have succeeded in providing electricity service in Raptisonari and Narainapur areas two and a half decades after the electricity poles were erected.
In the last two years, even in the time of COVID-19 pandemic, the work of extending electricity continued.
Chairman of Rapti Sonari Rural Municipaluty-6 Ram Lakhan Tharu said that the people were very happy to consume electricity during the festival for the first time.
He said that supply of power has also made easier for them to irrigate their lands and do other works with arrival of electricity in the villages.
Minister Sharma, who visited Narainapur and Raptisonari rural municipalities for the first time after becoming the minister, said that now the people could consume free electricity.
Stating that 18-hour load shedding has been ended under the leadership of the Maoists’ government, he said that arrangements have been made so that the all people could consume electricity for a minimum of Rs. 30 per month.
The team led by the Minister had also inspected the Suiya Baghauda checkpoint on the Nepal-India border.
On the occasion, Minister Sharma received information about the security situation from the security personnel and gave necessary instructions, said Banke Chief District Officer Surya Bahadur Khatri.
