Returned Artifacts Kept In Museum


Three artifacts lost from Nepal are now put at the National Museum, Chhauni after being returned home.
The artifacts of 13th to 16th century of Salabhanjika Strut, Shakyamuni Buddha and Ganesha sculpture were returned from the USA.
The returned artifacts are kept at the museum because their original locations from where they were stolen have not been identified yet.
Jay Ram Shrestha, chief of National Museum of Chhauni, said that artifacts were kept at the museum. It will put the relics on display for visitors with the opening of the museum.
The artifacts were handed over to the National Museum of Chhauni on Thursday organising a programme held at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.
The idols were caught by New York police while a burglar was engaged in illicit trafficking of such cultural properties in foreign market. The police officer of New York informed the District Attorney Office about the acquired cultural objects.
Attorney Office informed the Consulate General of Nepal in New York, USA about the found objects and asked to take such objects saying that they belonged to Nepal.
The returned Salabhanjika Strut belongs to the 13th century; Ganesha sculpture to 14th/15th century and Ganesha sculpture belongs to 15th /16th century.
