Kathmandu, Nepal:
Seven federal ministers of the ruling party have resigned en masse following Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli’s decision to dissolve the parliament on Sunday, 20th December, 2020.
The seven ministers, all aligned towards the Dahal-Nepal faction within Nepal’s ruling party tendered their resignation claiming the PM’s move was unconstitutional.
The ministers who resigned are:
- Bina Magar – Minister for Water Supply and Sanitation,
- Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai – Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviaition,
- Shakti Bahadur Basnet – Minister for Forest and Environment,
- Giriraj Mani Pokhrel – Minister for Education, Science and Technology,
- Rameshwor Raya Yadav – Minister for Labour and Employment,
- Barsha Man Pun – Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation,
- Ghanashyam Bhusal – Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, earlier today, had called an emergency Council of Ministers meeting which recommended President Bhandari to dissolve the Parliament.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari approved the government’s recommendation on Sunday afternoon.
Issuing a press release, the President’s Office announced fresh elections to be held in two rounds on April 30 and on May 10 as per the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.
Following the decision, the seven ministers tendered their resignations from their respective portfolios.
