The number of divorce cases has increased in Taplejung. It is found that 54 percent of the total cases registered in the Taplejung District Court are related to divorce.
According to the court, of the 45 cases filed in the first month of the fiscal year 2022/23, 24 were cases of divorce.
Shambhu Prasad Regmi, a court employee, said that the divorce cases have set a record in the district as more than 50 percent of the total cases were of divorce.
In the fiscal years 2021/022 and 2020/021, of the total cases registered in the District Court, 41 and 34 percent were related to divorce respectively. Foreign employment, disputes between spouses, and other family disputes are found to be the main reasons for a high number of estranged relationships.
