Temporary Police ‘Myadi Prahari’ deployed all over Nepal for upcoming election


Nepal Police have started deploying temporary police (Myadi Prahari) personnel across the country for the upcoming House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies elections slated for November 20.

A total of 115,000 temporary policemen were selected for election security who can be sighted in the cities and marketplaces across the country assisting traffic management and inspecting the implementation of the election code of conduct.

According to Nepal Police, the temporary officers were sent to different units as per necessity.

“The temporary officers will assist in ensuring safety for the elections. Individuals have been deployed in the police units nearby their residents,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bijay Shrestha of Sarlahi District Police.

According to DSP Shrestha, the temporary officers will be deployed in the polling centers alongside other security forces as per the security plan on the day of the elections.

Physically and mentally fit Nepalis aged 18-54 years were selected for the temporary post of police on the basis of different training criteria from respective district police offices.

Similarly, former security personnel, those with security experience and previous temporary police were prioritised for selection.

The temporary policemen will be provided Rs. 34,760 for 40-day service during the elections. They will also receive Rs. 7,200 as ration allowance, Rs. 6,000 for uniform (additional Rs. 1,000 in Himalayan districts), Rs. 1,000 for transport and a snack allowance of Rs. 300 per day for four days.

Senior Nepal Police officers informed that the temporary policemen will be of great support to ensure a safe environment for the elections.
