Thapa, Devkota, Tamang Register Candidacy For NA By-Election


Three leaders have fielded candidacy for the by-election for National Assembly (NA) member being held on May 20.

Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal, Dr. Khim Lal Devkota, and Krishna Bahadur Tamang registered their candidacies for the by-election on Friday at the office of the Election Officer in Hetauda.

Minister Badal registered his candidacy from the ruling CPN-UML, Devkota registered his candidacy as a common independent candidate of Nepali Congress and NCP (Maoist Centre) and Tamang from Nepal Majdoor Kishan Party.

Madhav Kumar Nepal-led faction of CPN-UML and Upendra Yadav-led faction of Janata Samajwadi Party is supporting Devkota for the poll.

Chief Minister of Bagmati Province Dormani Poudel, Minister for Social Development Sarashwoti Basnet, and other CPN-UML leaders were also present at the election officer’s office for registration of Badal’s candidacy.

Similarly, Shalik Ram Kattel, leader of the main opposition of Bagmati Provincial Assembly, Indra Bahadur Baniya, leader of NC parliamentary party were present during Devkota’s registration.

Member of Bagmati Provincial Assembly Srijana Sainju and other leaders were supporting Tamang during his registration for the election.

Bagmati Provincial Assembly consists of 348 voters for the upcoming by-election.

Election Officer and Justice at Makwanpur District Court Dilli Ratna Shrestha said, “A total of 348 people including 110 members of the provincial assembly, 119 Chairmen of the Rural Municipality and 238 mayors and deputy mayors of municipalities.”
