Three Arrested On Charges Of Attacking Health Workers Of Bheri Hospital

The police on Friday arrested three people for their alleged involvement in attacking the doctors and nurses of the Bheri Hospital.

According to District Police Office, Banke, Man Bahadur Rawat, Bharat Rawat, and Lokraj Rawat of Tulsipur Sub-metropolitan City-11 were taken into custody and further investigation to the case is underway.

After COVID-19 patient Dilli Rawat died while receiving treatment at Bheri Hospital on Thursday night, his relatives physically assaulted the doctor and nurses who were on duty.

“Of the arrestees, Man Bahadur is the brother of the deceased while the other two are the deceased’s sons,” said SP Om Rana, Banke Police Chief.

Meanwhile, all the health workers of the Bheri Hospital have been staging demonstrations demanding severe punishment to the attackers. They have been sloganeering and protesting at the hospital premises by suspending their duties, calling the government to ensure their security, and punish the attackers.

Homnath Subedi, Chairman of Bheri Hospital Health Workers Association, said that they would not return to duty until their demands are fulfilled. He also warned that the health workers from all over the district would begin the protest if their demands are not addressed soon.

After the deceased’s relatives tried to kill the health workers, a doctor and four nurses had jumped off the roof to save their lives.

Stating that the incident had discouraged the health workers to continue their services amid the COVID-19 crisis, the incident is being condemned nationwide.
