Three prisons in Kathmandu Valley prepare for conducting voting


A total of 182 inmates and detainees of two prisons in Kathmandu and one in Lalitpur will be exercising their franchise on Sunday under the elections to the Member of the House of Representatives and Province Assembly.     

According to the respective officers, 110 from the Prison Office, Kathmandu, 20 from the Prison Office, Jagannathdeval, Kathmandu and 52 from the Prison Office, Lalitpur will be casting their votes in the House of Representatives (HoR) election towards the Proportional Representation (PR) system on Sunday.     

It is said the entire preparations for the voting in the respective locations have been completed.     

The voting will commence at 7:00 am tomorrow. Prison Office, Jagannathdeval’s under-secretary Bed Prasad Kharel said they have received the election materials from the office of the election officer.     

 This is the first time that the voting right of the inmates and detainees except those convicted of election offences has been brought into practice. For this purpose, 141 temporary polling centres have been fixed across the country.     

The EC for the first time has implemented the provision of a temporary polling centre since its guarantee in the 2015 Constitution.     

The total number of temporary voters across the country is 450 thousand this time. (RSS)
