Four different unions of the employees in Tribhuvan University (TU) have forged an alliance for the election of the TU Employees Association (TUEA) central committee.
Nepal National Employees Union, Democratic Employees Union, Unified Employees Union and National Employees Union have forged the electoral alliance fielding a panel under the leadership of Punya Prasad Acharya.
The election is set to be held on June 24.
The TUEA election is held every three years. However, the upcoming election is being held after five years owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the past, there used to be competition mainly between three unions- Nepal National Employees Union, Democratic Employees Union, and Progressive Employees Union.
However, this time around, two more organizations, the Unified Employees Organization and the National Employees Organization, Nepal are appearing in this election with an aim to revive the university’s lost credibility, and they have aligned with the Democratic-Leftist Democratic Employee Group.
There will be competition in the election mainly between the two: Democratic-Leftist Democratic Employee Group and Progressive Employees Union. In its competition, the Progressive Employees Union has also given its candidature under the leadership of Chhatra Bahadur Karki.
More than 6,500 employees of the TU, both permanent service and contract service, from more than 63 affiliated campuses, offices, and departments will vote in this election.
