UML Forms 80-Member Politburo, Nominates Central Members


The major opposition party CPN (UML) on Sunday formed an 80-member politburo.

The second meeting of the central committee convened in Bhaktapur also nominated 44 members for the central committee and formed the provincial committee in all seven provinces, according to Mahesh Basnet, one of the central committee members.

Basnet shared that the politburo members include Ghanashyam Bhusal, Guru Baral, Bhanubhakta Dhakal, Sita Poudel, Binda Pandey, and Sher Bahadur Tamang, among others.
Similarly, Gokul Banskota, Mahesh Basnet, Baijanath Chaudhary, Hikmat Karki and Lila Giri were also picked as the politburo member.

Likewise, 44 people (29 male and 14 female) were nominated to the central committee. They are Dal Fadera, Lal Babu Pandit, and Yagya Bogati among others.

Chandra Mohan, Resham Lama, Durga Prasai, and Bisamlal Adhikari among others were central committee members who joined the party through a unification bid.

From the women category, Indiradevi Gautam, Uma Koirala, Taradevi Gurung and Nainkala Purja among others were nominated.

A new provincial committee has been formed in the wake of new leadership elected through the party’s 10th national convention. Province-1’s committee is chaired by Tulsi Neupane and co-chaired by Tika Chemjong.

Ram Awatar Yadav has been nominated Chairperson of Province-2 and Rewati Panta as vice-chairperson. Keshavraj Pandey is Bagmati Province chair and Ramhari Subedi is vice-chair.

Nawaraj Sharma has been picked as Gandaki Province chair and Mohan Regmi as vice-chair. Radhakrishna Kandel has been chairperson of Lumbini Province while Bhojprasad Shrestha is nominated as vice-chair. Binod Shah and Lal Bahadur Mahatara have been nominated chair and vice-chair of Karnali Province respectively.

Damodar Bhandari is chair of Sudurpaschim Province and Kamal Timalsina vice-chair. The new provincial committee will select new leadership in the province organization committee.

Members for the Standing Committee will be picked from the new politburo.
