Valley prohibitory order extended by a week


An otherwise bustling Patan Durbar Square is seen empty during Kathmandu Valley’s Prohibitory Order.

Kathmandu Valley’s ongoing probibitory order, in effect since Thursday, 20th August, 2020 has been extended by another week. The prohibitory order, until further notice, will be applicable until 2nd Sept, 2020 (11:59 p.m.) within Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur Districts.

The decision was arrived upon in joint agreement of the heads of the three districts, and with advice of heads of security of the respective districts.

Under the prohibitory order, public and vehicular movement, unless of emergency or urgent nature, will be continued to be restricted.

The decision to shutdown the valley has come amidst a surge in community transmission of Covid-19. On Tuesday, Kathmandu recorded its biggest single day spike in cases since the onset of the pandemic – 232 cases in 24 hours.

Of the 232, 199 were detected in Kathmandu, 19 were detected in Lalitpur and 14 were detected in Bhaktapur.
