Volleyball competition under South Asian Games begins

Though the 13th edition of the South Asian Games is set to officially begin from December 10, volleyball matches under the tournament is beginning from today itself.

Both men’s and women’s volleyball teams will compete for medals at the covered hall of Tripureshwor-based Nepal Sports Council. All participating teams, except India, have already arrived in the country. India, however, is yet to confirm if it will be participating in the volleyball matches.

The men’s volleyball team will face Bangladesh later in the afternoon whereas Maldives women will play against Pakistan women on the first day today.

As per the schedule, Nepali women will meet India in the second group match tomorrow while men’s team will compete against India on Friday.

After winning the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Central Zone Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship in Bangladesh, the Nepali women’s team is confident about winning gold.

The 13th SA Games features 27 sports disciplines and 17 of them will be held in and around Kathmandu. Pokhara will host nine disciplines, while Janakpur was included as the host of wresting recently.

Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, Maldives, Sri Lanka and India will be partaking in the tournament.
