Waling Municipality To Distribute 145 Piglets

The Waling Municipality, in Syanga district, has declared three potential areas for pig rearing in an effort to promote commercial pig farming there.
Under the programme, the municipality has identified Langhali Pig Rearing Group Dhanubanse of Ward No. 6, Sirjana Pig Rearing Group of Ward No. 7 and Pariban Forest Consumer Group of Ward No. 8 as pig pocket area.
Mayor of Waling Municipality Dilip Pratap Khand said that they would focus on the distribution of piglets and provide assistance to the farmers with necessary training as well as medical treatment for the pigs.
Stating that the municipality would provide other assistance to the farmers if they had strong will and determination to run their businesses, Khand said that the municipality was committed to providing necessary assistance to them to make them entrepreneurs.
He added that the municipality would coordinate with the banks to provide loans at nominal interest rates.
“We will provide necessary grants and help in marketing of the pig meat for the farmers who want to raise pigs collectively or individually,” he said.
The programme got started by distributing 35 piglets to Sirjana Pig Rearing Group of Waling-7, Tapke.
Preparations have been made to distribute piglets to other two villages within 2-3 days as per the demand of the farmers, he said.
This year, the municipality will distribute 145 piglets in three pocket areas, provide training to the farmers with necessary knowledge and skills and make arrangements for medical treatment.
Basant Kumar Adhikari, Animal Development Section of the Waling Municipality chief, said that both targeted farmers and the municipality need to do more to make the campaign a grand success, since such programme would play a crucial role in making the municipality self-sufficient in fish, meat and eggs.
