Amid protest going on against India for the encroachment of Nepal’s territory, a Chinese media has mentioned the highest peak in the world, Mount Everest, is situated in China.

China Global Television Network (CGTN) of China posted on their Twitter handle have mentioned Mount Everest lies in “China’s #Tibet Autonomous Region.”

There are protests on social media saying that CGTN has transmitted false information. After getting comments on the post, suggesting to look at the historical facts and correct their mistake – they have deleted the post.

China Mobile and Huawei have built a base station for 5G Internet on the Tibet side of Mount Everest at an altitude of 6,500 meters – the station is the world’s highest 5G station. Recently, Huawei released a video of the equipment needed for the 5G station being transported by yak.

Only the northern side of Mount Everest faces China. According to the Chinese news agency Xinhua, China has started measuring the height of Mount Everest from the northern face for which a team of Chinese surveyors and climbers have reached the base camp last Wednesday.

It was estimated that the height of Mt Everest may have decreased due to the earthquake that hit Nepal in 2015.
In June last year, a team from Nepal’s Survey Department returned after measuring the height of Mount Everest, but so far, no report has been made public.
