Arsenal escape Rapid Wien with opening win

Arsenal endured a slow start to their Europa League campaign after snatching a 2-1 win away to Rapid Wien.

Goals from David Luiz and Pierre-Emerick salvaged three points, after Taxiarchis Fountas put the hosts ahead.

Arsenal have enjoyed a beautiful honeymoon phase under Mikel Arteta, with FA Cups, Community Shields and marked defensive improvements.

But their attacking play continues to frustrate. With Mesut Özil in exile, the Gunners don’t have a recognised ‘playmaker’ in their side and are devoid of creativity.

Unai Emery was criticised for his shot-shy side but Arsenal are no different under Arteta – often relying on the perfect goal or individual brilliance to score.

There is still time for the Spaniard to fix their profligacy but the longer it goes on, the more concerns will arise.
