Chelsea net in stoppage time to claim an unlikely draw

Chelsea came back from 3-0 down to claim an incredible 3-3 draw away at West Brom

A comically bad first half from the Blues saw them concede three unanswered goals, but Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Tammy Abraham all netted in the second half to give the west London side a share of the spoils.

What does it say about this Chelsea squad that Thiago Silva made his Premier League debut here this evening and was immediately handed the captains’ armband?

The veteran Brazilian has been at the club less than a month, has played a total of zero minutes in the league and speaks very little English.

And yet here he was, marshalling a defence that included Andreas Christensen and Marcos Alonso.

Slow across the pitch, unable to keep up with the pace of the game, struggling to get a grip of Callum Robinson – Thiago Silva was a disaster.

It’s the perfect encapsulation of everything that is wrong in west London right now – an unbalanced squad that, despite the vast amounts spent in trying to fix, still needs emergency surgery, and quick.

Lots of money has been thrown at the problem, but without a proper coach who can organise a defence, it will all be totally meaningless.
