Manchester United made a terrible start to the new season when they were beaten 3-1 at home by Crystal Palace on Saturday.
You have to feel sorry for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sometimes.
Even when his team are winning there are constant suggestions that United could be doing even better if they hired a more experienced manager. And as soon as United have a bad result, the knives come out for the Norwegian on the bench.
Frustrations are likely to be running high among the United fanbase tonight after what has been a very frustrating summer.
They were supposed to really kick on during the close season but while their rivals have all strengthened significantly, United have stood still and their performance against Palace suggests they might be in danger of going backwards.
Of course, it’s not Solskjaer’s fault that Jadon Sancho isn’t here, but he should be capable of masterminding a win over a side like Crystal Palace with the tools already at his disposal.
About the only positives United can take from this game is David de Gea making some decent saves and Donny van de Beek scoring on his debut. Everyone else was well below par.
It’s only the first game of the season, of course, but the signs were not good from United. Not good at all.
