India thrash Maldives 9-0


Anju Tamang inspired India cruised into semifinals of the ongoing 6th SAFF Women’s Championship after they registered a 9-0 comfortable victory over Maldives to register their second victory in a row at Dashrath Stadium, Kathmandu on Saturday.

With a victory over Maldives, defending champion India and Bangladesh booked their spot in the semifinals from group ‘A” with one match in hand. But the last match of the group stage between India and Bangladesh will decide the group winner and runner-up.

Meanwhile, India and Bangladesh have an equal six points from two matches but Bangladesh in the summit and India is at the second spot of the league standing based on goal differences. Similarly, Maldives and Pakistan crashed out of the championship. Maldives is at the third spot and Pakistan is at the bottom of the league standing due to goal differences.

Likewise, host Nepal and Bhutan have already cruised into the semifinal from group ‘B’ while Sri Lanka ended their SAFF Women’s Champions from the group stage. The group ‘B’ winner and runner-up are yet to be decided.

Anju Tamang netted four goals including her individual hat-trick while Dangmei Grace scored a brace and Priyanngka Devi, Soumya Guguloth and Kashmina contributed one goal apiece in a huge 9-0 victory of five times champion India.

Khatun scores hat-trick

A hat-trick from Sabina Khatun helped Bangladesh register the second win in a row at the ongoing SAFF Women’s Championship 2022 after they humiliated Pakistan by 6-0 at Dashrath Stadium, Kathmandu on Saturday in the first match.

After registering a 6-0 comfortable victory over Pakistan, Bangladesh secured their spot in the semifinals from group ‘B’ and they moved to the summit of the league standing with six points from two matches while India is at second spot and Maldives is at third spot and Pakistan is at bottom of the league standing with zero points from two matches they played.

Bangladeshi captain Khatun completed her individual hat-trick while Monika Chakma, Mosammat Sirat Jahan Shpna and Ritu Chakma scored one goal apiece in a huge victory of Bangladesh.

Khatun of Bangladesh was the first women’s footballer to score a hat-trick in the ongoing 6th SAFF Women’s championship.

Host Nepal will take on Sri Lanka in their last match of the group stage on Monday.
