Nepal’s chance of qualifying for the AFC U20 Asia Cup is all but over after losing 6-0 to host Bahrain for a third defeat in a row at Sheikh Ali Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Stadium.on Wednesday night.
With one match in hand, Nepal occupies the bottom place of the Group B standings without any points. The win put Bahrain back in contention after finishing second with four points. Qatar, after thrashing Bhutan 6-0, topped the table with six points. Bangladesh with equal four points sits behind host Bahrain in third place. Bhutan is in the fourth spot.
Abdulla Sultan Alkhalasi put the host ahead through a penalty in the 19th minute. Sayed Ali Naser doubled the advantage three minutes before the break.
Bahrain continued the domination in the second half too with Abdulrahman Gadban trebling the lead in the 67th minute.
Substitute Abdulla Ali Alsubaiei scored a brace within a space of four minutes to make the tally 5-0. His goal came in 84th and 86th minutes. Mubarak Mohamed Habib killed the match for Bahrain making 6-0 into stoppage time.
Nepal was stunned by Bhutan 2-0 in the first match and lost its second against Qatar by 3-1. The last outing of Nepal is against Bangladesh on Sunday.
Nepal’s dream to win the SAFF U17 Championship was dashed after losing to India by 4-0 in Colombo, Sri Lanka on Wednesday evening.
Bobby Singh, Korou Singh, Vanlalpeka Guite and Aman netted one goal apiece to help India win the fourth SAFF U-17 Championship.
The Nepali youth team was reduced to 10-man in the 38th after Skipper Prashant Laksham faced a direct red card from Bangladeshi referee Alamgir Sarkar for kicking Danny Meitei Laishram of India.
Bobby Singh opened India’s account in the 18th minute and Korou Singh doubled India’s tally in the 30th minute.
Similarly, Skipper Vanlalpeka Guite put India into its comfort zone with a third goal. Aman sealed India’s fourth title by making the score-line 4-0.
The final victory came as sweet revenge for a 3-1 loss against Nepal in the group stage.
