Nepal to host Int’ Open Karate Championship

The Second International Open Karate Championship-2019 is to kick off from Friday in Nepal. The championship is organised by Toyakan Nepal Wado-Ryu Karate Do Association Central Committee under the slogan – ‘Sports for Health, Sports for the Nation.’

The championship will take place on May 24 and 25. Four hundred players and 40 official members are participating in the championship, Association vice-president and programme coordinator, Ajaya Bhakta Shrestha, said.

Association general secretary Arun Kumar Karki said the championship has been organised for publicising Nepal in the national and international level with the promotion of sports culture as well as for producing talented sports persons. He added that a blood donation programme has also been planned on the occasion.

Players from Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Japan among other countries will be participating in the championship. The competitions would be held in 30 various departments including kata and kumite. Thirty gold, 30 silver and 60 bronze medals are up for grab. The player winning the kick-boxing competition will bag Rs 10,000, player coming out in second position will get Rs 5,000 and the player coming out third will bag Rs 3,000. RSS
