Sixth SAFF Women’s Championship: Pakistan to play, India to not play

India will not be allowed to play in the sixth edition of the SAFF Women’s Championship following a ban on the Indian Football Association by FIFA.

FIFA has banned the All India Football Federation citing political interference. Along with the ban, it has also been decided that the U-17 Women’s World Cup, which India was going to host in October, will also be moved to another country.

SAFF Women’s Championship is being held in Kathmandu from September 6 to 19. With FIFA lifting the ban on Pakistan two months ago, the competition was supposed to see the participation of all seven teams from SAFF.

The women’s regional competition, which started in 2010, has not been won by any other country except India. Nepal has reached the final four times of the five times. India won the title by defeating Nepal 3-1 in the fifth edition of the SAFF Women’s Championship in Biratnagar in March 2075.
