South Korea and the United Arab Emirates claimed the title of the Asia Rugby U18 Sevens Championship held at Dasarath Stadium in Kathmandu on Sunday.
South Korea defeated the UAE by 21-17 to claim the men’s title. En route to the final, South Korea outplayed Malaysia by 19-7 and the UAE ousted India by 36-0 in the semifinals.
Likewise, Chinese Taipei lifted the Plate Championship beating Thailand in the final.
Taipei thrashed Nepal 34-7 and Thailand thumped Bangladesh 53-0 in the one sided semifinals to advance into the final. Eight teams contested in the men’s category.
Host Nepal finished at the seventh position following its 69-0 rout over Bangladesh in the playoff.
Similarly, the UAE defeated India by 26-5 in the final to win women’s title. Malaysia beat Thailand 19-7 to claim third place. Along with Nepal, five nations competed in the women’s section.
For the first time in Nepal, the international tournament of the Rugby has been organized by Asia Rugby in the coordination with Nepal Rugby Association.
Member Secretary of National Sports Council Tankalal Ghising, President of Asia Rugby Qais Al-Dhalai and Acting President of Nepal Rugby Dipak Devkota distributed the prizes to the winners.
